If you're leaning more towards bow ties, then you'll want to know the different types of bow ties.  For starters, the butterfly bow tie is considered a standard fit for men. This bow tie is about 2.25 and 2.75 inches.

Many men will wear this kind of bow tie for a formal event because of the fit and neutral colors. Next, we have the batwing bow tie. This bow tie has very narrow wings that are about 1.5 to 2 inches long. They appear to be a lot thinner and relaxed. Therefore, this bow tie is great for semi-formal and business events.

Then we have the diamond bow tie, this bow tie is great for those who like a sharp and elegant look. The ends of the wings are diamond points which are perfect for any formal event.

Lastly, we have the large butterfly bow tie. This bow tie is similar to the regular butterfly bow tie. However, it is g 3 to 3.5 inches longer. This bow tie looks very big so it's best to wear it with neutral colors. And this bow can be worn to formal and non-formal events. 

How to Wear a Bow Tie

Wearing a bowtie is very easy. All you need to do is match the primary colors of your suit to your bow tie. For example, if you have a light-colored suit you'll want a white or gray bowtie!

You also want to make sure you pick the correct type of bow tie for an event. So if you're going to a very formal event, choose a diamond or standard butterfly bow tie.

However, if you have a fun event planned then a large butterfly bow tie can really enhance your look. Remember that bow ties can be worn on most occasions.

Other Methods for Wearing a Bow Tie

If you're a beginner at wearing bow ties, you may need someone's help. Or you can always buy a pre-tied bow tie. 

Therefore, all you need to do is adjust the bow tie to your neck size. Typically, pre-tied bowties will have fasteners that allow you to easily let you unhook and hook the bow for multiple uses. 

If you prefer traditional bow ties, then you'll need to learn how to tie a bow first. So first, stand in front of a mirror and make sure your tuxedo or dress shirt is fully buttoned up. Then you'll want to wrap the bow tie around the neck, but ensure the right tail falls 1.5 inches lower than the left tail.

Then grab both ends of the bow tie but cross the long tail over the shorter tail. After doing so, you'll want to loop the long tail through the neck hole.

And then adjust the bow to make it tighter or looser. To finish the bow, put the long tail over your shoulder, then take the short tail and double the widest part. 

Take your dominant hand and hold the shape in place, then take your other tail off your shoulder and pull it down and over the middle section of the bow-like shape. You'll want to do some finishing touches like pinching the bow and ensuring it's tight enough!
